WELCOME TO BIAV
The
Baking Industry Association of Victoria - the peak employer organization for
the manufacturing, wholesale and retail Baking Industry in Victoria.
The
Baking Industry Association of Victoria was incorporated on the 28th May,
1999 following the amalgamation of the Victorian Association of Bakers and
the former Victorian Master Pastrycooks Association.
The
establishment of a united body means that the Baking Industry has the resolve
and representational impact to proactively face the many challenges which
face the industry now and are likely to confront the industry in the future.
The
Baking Industry Association of Victoria is a strong voice to governments and
with increasing membership can only become stronger. As such, members benefit
from open channels of communication with relevant government departments,
such as Australian and New Zealand Food Authority, Australian Taxation Office,
the Victorian Departments of Human Services, State and Regional Development
and the Office of Post-Compulsory Education Training and Employment .
The Baking Industry Association of Victoria's goal is to provide the support and motivation to ensure the success and development of the entire Baking Industry.

Welcome to the new look BIAV that promises to be one of the most exciting years with a whole range of new services and an exciting and innovative program of events and activities.
We plan to develop over the coming months, a website that will be second to none in the global baking industry. A general overview of our planned program can be obtained from our " Services Page".

Chris and Sue Waack from Waacks Bakery, Stawell, Ararat and Horsham are proof that perseverence does bring rewards. After ten years of entering the Vanilla Slice Competition in Ouyen they have finally cracked it for a win in the Professional Open Class.
New comers to the Industry Louise and Russell Napier from the Kyabram Bakery were delighted to take out the trophy for the Professional Novelty Section.

We are currently developing a comprehensive "recipe" site for our members and this will be a "work in progress" project. As we get new and interesting recipes we will have them available for you.

| Online Induction |
This is another one of our "big ticket" items that we are currently working on and we are planning to have it up an running by February next year.
You will be able to conduct an induction program for your staff online. Initially it will focus on OH&S and Food Safety but we have plans to develop the program into customer training, merchandising and product identification.

The 2008 Victorian Baking Convention conducted at the William Angliss Institute on the 13th Of November was a resounding success with the feature of the Convention being the inaugural Victorian Baking Industry Excellence in Baking Awards.
The Minister for Agriculture and Small Business, Joe Helper presented the Awards at a gala evening at William Angliss Institute restaurant. Winners of the Victorian Bakery of the Year was the Eaglehawk Bakery Caffe, Eaglehawk, the winner of the Victorian Baking Manufacturer was Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses, Keilor, and the winner of the Victorian Baking Training Award was Waack's Bakery, Stawell, Ararat. Over 300 entries were received for the Victorian Baking Show and Head Judge, Ilton Stimson congratulated all entries for their high standard. One interstate contestant commented that the standard in Victoria was the best in Australia and if you could win in Melbourne, you could win anywhere. Overall winner in the Bread Section was the Oven Door Bakery from Horsham and the overall winner in the Cakes and Pastries Section was Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses from Keilor.
The EOI Great Aussie Pastie Competition attracted over 40 entries from all over Australia and this year's winner went to Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses from Keilor.
The first meeting of the "Victorian Baking Industry Suppliers Network" was held with 15 companies attending. Distributers, equipment suppliers, margarine and flour suppliers and financial and insurance companies all contributed ideas on ways in which all can gain greater benefits from alliances and partnerships within the Industry.
